CHILD & ADOLESCENT SURVIVORS
The Joseph J. Peters Institute
treats children and adolescents (ages 3-19) who have been sexually
abused or are presenting developmentally inappropriate sexual behaviors.
Services are provided by a group of clinicians trained in issues
of sexual abuse and can include: initial psychological evaluation;
psychiatric evaluation; individual, family, and/or group psychotherapy;
and ongoing medication management.
The initial evaluation includes clinical interviews
of parent/caregivers and child, along with behavioral observation
and specialized psychological testing to identify difficulties in
functioning. The purpose of the evaluation is to define the client
and family’s strengths and weaknesses as well as identifying
the specific problems that the child is presenting. Additionally,
this provides a detailed set of recommendations for the child’s
treatment and involvement of the family in the treatment process.
ADULT SURVIVORS
Similar services are also available for adults who have been sexually
victimized or abused leading to a formation of detailed recommendations
for treatment, which are discussed with client, and the commencement
of treatment thereafter.
